PIPER

 Location: Parkland Humane Society
Sex: Female
Breed: German Shephard - Single Breed
Colour: Tri Colour
 Age: 3-4 Years

You might not recognize her now that she’s all grown up, but Piper was originally part of our “S” Litter in 2023, when she went by the name Sloan. She has recently returned to our care due to her previous owner’s declining health and inability to continue caring for her. While transitions can be difficult, Piper has handled this change with remarkable grace. Her steady, loving temperament is a true reflection of the stability and affection she has always known. Piper is deeply people-oriented and forms exceptionally strong bonds with her person. She doesn’t just love — she loves wholeheartedly. Once she chooses you, she is fiercely loyal and very protective, always keeping a watchful eye on her home and the people she cherishes most. Because she bonds so deeply, she will thrive in a home where she can build a close, consistent relationship with her primary caregiver. She also responds very well to the name Nova, and seems to especially like it, so her future family is welcome to continue using either name. With her expressive eyes and confident, elegant gait, Piper carries herself like canine royalty wherever she goes. She is well-mannered, polite, attentive and proudly shows off her training skills, including sit, stay, and even shaking each paw individually on cue. While she certainly enjoys a tasty treat, it’s enthusiastic praise and positive attention that truly make her tail wag. And belly rubs? They’re non-negotiable. Piper will happily roll over at any opportunity to request one. She is both house trained and kennel trained, settling comfortably into routines and new environments with ease. Piper has experience living with a fenced yard as well as on acreage, and she would do best in a home with a very large, securely fenced yard, acreage, or even a farm setting where she has room to stretch her legs and feel confident in her surroundings. Space is important for this girl. Piper is a tall, capable girl who can easily see what’s on counters and may help herself if something tempting is left within reach, so mindful management will be important. She is intelligent and observant, and she appreciates clear boundaries and structure. When it comes to other animals, Piper can be selective with other dogs and would do best as the only canine in the home, where she can fully devote herself to her person. She has a noticeable fear of cats and prefers to avoid them entirely, so a cat-free home is essential. Overall, Piper is a loyal, devoted, and well-adjusted companion who would flourish with an older family or individual seeking a deeply bonded, protective best friend. If you’re looking for a dog who will stand by your side with unwavering loyalty and grace, Piper (or Nova!) may be the perfect match.
