Letter from the Parkland Humane Society
Hi to everyone who follows the Humane Society as well as any new comers. We are very appreciative to all who have helped the shelter in the past and all who continue to do so. Without your help our beloved animals would not find shelter and safe homes. There is always a need to be filled and we always welcome new volunteers.
Our shelter is open Monday - Saturday 1-4pm. The gates may be closed to reduce the risk of our dogs escaping. Occasionally they may be locked if the Supervisor is by themselves, out in the back with the dogs, or away taking a pet to the vet. Appointments can be made if someone wants to see the pets available.
We have a Low Income Spay/neuter program. Applications are available on line and at the shelter. Please feel free to drop the application off at the shelter as this will speed up the process.
We are in the process of making forms for the municipal programs as well and hope to have these ready in the near future.
Our adoption process takes a little time. Our volunteers know that we all come to love all shelter pets and we want to make sure that the new owners and the pets suit each other. We do reference checks, home visits, and trial adoptions.
When individuals want to surrender their pets we try to help but there is usually a waiting period due to the great demand of animals needing help. Please contact us if you have been waiting awhile as we are always full and space depends on adoptions and fosters. Fosters are a very much needed to support our intake ability.
Fundraising is another important part. We have a Board member who is in charge of fundraising and she welcomes help. Anyone wanting to do private or personal fundraising should contact her or leave a message at the shelter so that the board is aware of what is being done and no one can take advantage of our need for personal reasons instead of for the shelter. This is rare but has happened in the past.
If anyone has concerns we want to be an approachable board and will do our best to make people feel comfortable and appreciated.
Thank you
Sincerely

The Parkland Humane Society Inc. is a non-profit, incorporated organization run entirely by individuals either as volunteers or on the board who are dedicated to promoting animal's welfare, dignity and protecting them from suffering. We are located in Dauphin, Manitoba
PHSI takes in abused, neglected and homeless animals to give them a second chance at life. These animals are placed in foster care until a permanent, loving home is found. In 2009-2010 218 cats/dogs found new homes through our Adoption Program.
PHSI tries to take in as many animals from individuals wishing to surrender their pet. This is entirely dependent on the number of foster homes available and budget restrictions.
Hundreds/thousands of unwanted, unplanned births are prevented through our successful Low Income Spay/Neuter and Spay/Neuter Projects.
Our Hospital Visitation Program enables residents of some Personal Care Homes or Hospital settings within Dauphin and the Parkland to receive the benefits provided through visits from specialty trained dogs and their owners.
PHSI would not be able to operate without our dedicated volunteers, members and foster homes. We also rely solely on donations and grants in order to operate.
PHSI Opened the doors to a brand new Shelter on July 1, 2013. However the cost to build the shelter and now to operate has eaten up almost all savings and the money to operate. So please continue to be a member or donate, buy a brick or the many other programs we offer.
