Buy a Brick

Buy a brick so that this dream will become a reality. Your name will be displayed on a "Wall of Honour" located within the shelter slated to be built at 411 2nd Avenue NW in Dauphin, Manitoba. There are several different packages available to accommodate donations of any amount including:

Bronze - $20.00 - $99.99
Silver - $100.00 - $ 349.99
Gold - $350.00 - $999.99
Platinum - $1000.00
Titanium - $2000.00
Diamond - $5000.00

Your brick can:  Memorialize or honour a beloved pet.  Honour or remember a loved one or special friend.  Give a gift to celebrate a birthday, holiday or other special occasions.  Permanently commemorate your connection with the Parkland Humane Society.

Important Facts:  Your brick will help fund the construction of our new home.  Each brick will be laser engraved with your message and displayed on the wall of hope/honour inside the shelter.  This wall signifies the hope That we all share, that all animals will have a place of refuge until a loving home is found.

Why Buy a brick?  To tell the world that you love animals and support the effort of the PHS.  Because you want to change an animal's life and play a part in securing a happier future.

If you are a private individual, business, school or a club, you can make a long lasting imprint.

shelter update

PRESS RELEASE  - Happening soon!  Our Shelter plans are being finalized!!  Our goal to start digging September of 2012 is looking closer and closer to a reality!  Now we need your help!  We still need to raise $90,000.00 to reach our PHASE 1 $300,000.00 goal.  We still have a couple rooms available in the Naming Rights program and all donations toward shelter funds are greatly appreciated.  On March 3, 2012 we will be in the mall with our new plans and some exciting news for our shelter!  Stay tuned and come on down to see us on March 3, 2012 at the mall!!

You can get together with friends and family, to buy a room, or raise funds for the shelter.  Children have donated their birthday parties to Parkland Humane Society, others have bought a brick, for themselves, or their children or in memory of a loved one or an animal that has passed.  There are so many ways to donate please consider donating to us to help us build this much needed shelter in the parkland area.  You can also become a member and help us yearly with a membership to help continue to rescue animals in this area.

Phase II will be another 200,000.00 to complete.  If we can raise that as well by September, we can build Phase I and Phase II without delay!  Tell everyone you know, everyone will get a Tax Deductible Receipt for a minimum of $10.00 donations.

The board has been working very hard the past few months with letters to the City of Dauphin, and newspapers, and other shelters in hopes to get some assistance in the shocking tax assessment that PHS received. A $13,000.00 annual tax assessment would mean NO shelter for Dauphin and the Parkland. President Denise Penrose, along with board members, friends, and family members worked diligently on ways to overcome this obstacle. Letters were written to Government officials, newspapers, and several to the City of Dauphin. PHS presented a proposal to the city of Dauphin in order to assist with this huge annual tax assessment. Thankfully after many letters were sent in and emails to the city prior to the scheduled meeting, the City of Dauphin has accepted PHS's proposal.
PHS has recently created a Grant committee in order to help assist in applying and finding as many grant options as possible for the building and running of a shelter. This committee is run by Denise Penrose and on the committee is Debbi Sorochynski, , Joelle Belanger, Jill Forbes, Tamara Rossin, Monique Snow and Karen Jaeb .  Grant Committee is currently working on applications to the Thomas Sill Foundation and Community Places.

It has been decided by the board of PHS to create a space in our shelter for a Doggie Day Care to help generate an income for shelter expenses.

Other areas are still in need! We are still in need of more foster homes and volunteers to help fund-raise and build a shelter! If you are interested please feel free to join our meetings. They are the third Wednesday of each month currently at Dauphin Vet Clinic at 5:30 PM.   Any questions please feel free to email or call us at 638-6966.

Shelter Progress Report

Adam Snow of Dauphin has generously donated his personal time and expertise to act as Project Manager. A Building Committee consisting of Administrator Candice Taylor, Denise Penrose, Adam Snow, Joelle Robinson and Celina Dunfield has been created. As well a Grant Committee has been established and are actively applying for grants. Currently a grant has been applied for with Thomas Sill Foundation. Tamara Rossin is working on a grant with Community Places.

Shelter plans have been recently revised by Project Manager Adam Snow to involve a phase 1 and phase 2 of the shelter. The approximate cost of these phases are: phase 1 $300,000 and phase 2 $200,000. In addition Engineer Darren Eddie has made some suggestions regarding the shelter plans. The revised shelter plans will be finalized by Darren Eddie in January. McMunn and Yates at that time will begin working on the actual building costs for materials. McMunn & Yates have donated the roof trusses for the shelter. Dauphin Consumers Co-op have donated the shingles. Parkland Recreation Commission have committed their time for the landscaping.

The next Building Meeting will be held in January.

 Moving Day!!!

It was a very exciting day for the Parkland Humane Society Inc. when our storage building was ready to be moved from the DRCSS to our new building site.

This was our resident security guard, a Killdeer. She raised
her young there for the whole summer.

The Parkland Humane Society is pleased to announce the beginning development of the property in Dauphin at 411 -2nd Ave. N.W. (fenced area) west of Benson’s Auto.  The land is owned by the Parkland Humane Society.

The development will be staged over a time period as funding permits. Presently, the property has been surveyed, a city conditional usage permit has been received for a storage area building 14 ft. by 24 ft., an animal shelter 40 ft. by 60 ft., and a another building to be determined.

Strilkiwski Construction have donated 10 yards of gravel, Millers Farm Equipment have donated their services to level the gravel, Stirling Construction under the direction of Terry Tkachuk has packed the garage site and adjusted the gravel and found the Killdeer nest occupying the site. The Parkland Humane Society is pleased to announce the safe arrival of four cute Killdeer chicks in July. All of the chicks are doing well and enjoy roaming the site.

The Storage Building

The Dauphin Regional Comprehensive Secondary School construction department have built a storage building 14 ft. by 24 ft. . The much needed garage will house kennels, animal food, blankets, etc. as well as maintenance tools and equipment currently stored by Parkland Humane Society board members.

The very generous donation by McMunn and Yates, as well as McDiarmid Lumber has covered the costs for the whole garage. Our thanks go out to the suppliers. The DRCSS Construction Department under the direction of Mr. Doug Dando has done a superb job. Our thanks go out to the students and Mr. Dando for their labor donation and the surprise of a work bench. Thank you to John Deere Farm Equipment who moved the garage from the DRCSS to its new home on site. Thank you to Celina Dunfield for the use of her sprayer and TR Rentals for the use of a quad to control the weed population at the site.

We will be looking for various tools, i.e. rakes, hoes, spades, wheel barrels, water barrels, wrenches, hammers, lumber, and even nuts and bolts. We are starting with basically nothing and any donations would be very much appreciated. Please give us a call 638-6966 and leave a message. We will return your call as soon as possible.
